Philatelic Exhibiting Guides and Resources

Online Philatelic Exhibits

The American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors (AAPE) is an organization dedicated to promoting philatelic exhibiting, encouraging and assisting those who wish to exhibit, and improving the quality of both philatelic exhibits and philatelic judging.  Their website is a treasure trove of helpful information on exhibiting.

Mark Schwartz's PowerPoint on Exhibiting Postal History

The American Philatelic Society (APS) is a terrific all around source for stamp collectors and exhibitors in the U.S.  The APS also regulates the national stamp show and exhibition system.  National level scoresheets are available here.

Most important, the continuously updated Sixth Edition of the APS Manual of Philatelic Judging is available free online in PDF format, featuring sections on judging criteria for all of the exhibiting categories currently recognized for national level shows.

John Hotchner's Getting Started in Philatelic Exhibiting is a classic for beginning exhibitors, and a helpful reminder to more experienced exhibitors.

Dr. Edwin Andrews, APS Accredited Judge, provided insights in this presentation for those interested in Exhibiting for Fun.

Tom Fortunato provides similar insights for beginners in Welcome to the World of Stamp Exhibiting.

The Webmaster, Rob Henak, published an introductory series on exhibiting in the Across the Fence Post, the newsletter of the Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs.  That series, Exhibiting 101, is available here in PDF format.

Karen Weigt prepared a Beginning Exhibiting Manual for the Wisconsin Federation of Stamp Clubs in the late 1980s or early 1990s.  Outdated in some regards but still helpful for beginners.

Although not available online, the granddaddy of all resources on philatelic exhibiting is Randy Neil's The Philatelic Exhibitor's Handbook.  The current edition appears to be the 3rd ed. Revised and updated.
