MILCOPEX 2014 Show Theme:

200TH ANNIVERSARY OF

"THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER"

Our National Anthem began life as the poem, "Defence of Fort M’Henry," written by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, in September, 1814, during and shortly after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the War of 1812. On September 20, 1814, both the Baltimore Patriot and The American published the song, with the note "Tune: Anacreon in Heaven," referencing a popular tune at the time.  Shortly afterwards, the poem was retitled as "The Star-Spangled Banner."

As an American Philatelic Society World Series of Philately show, the MILCOPEX Grand Award winner is eligible for the annual "Champion of Champions" competition at Stampshow. However, you need not have championship level material to enjoy the benefits of exhibiting. The act of assembling your material into an exhibit allows you to view your collection in a new way. Also, the judge's critique, to be held on the afternoon of September 20, will provide you with suggestions and insights that can help expand the boundaries of your collection. You may even win an award!

If you have any other questions about MILCOPEX, please feel free to contact Rob Henak.  Or if you prefer the old-fashioned method, address your letters to:
